The Strathmore Institute of Management and Technology, a distinguished professional training arm of Strathmore University and an accredited institution under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), proudly hosted its graduation ceremony on Friday, 27th October 2023, at the University’s campus in Nairobi, Kenya.
During the ceremony, 513 diplomas were conferred, and 46 professional course candidates were acknowledged for their dedication and exceptional performance in their examinations. The diplomas were awarded in diverse fields such as: Business Information Technology, Business Management, International Relations, Business Creation and Entrepreneurship, and Journalism and New Media. The graduates from professional courses included: Certified Public Accountants, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and Chartered Institute of Marketing. Notably, the graduating class represented twenty-four nationalities, reflecting the institute’s global reach and inclusive learning environment.
The event commenced with a heartfelt prayer by the Strathmore University Chaplain, Rev Dr. Charles Mundia. Chintale Ranaweerage, a Diploma in International Relations graduate, eloquently represented her fellow graduates. She described their experience at Strathmore Institute as profoundly enriching, emphasizing the institution’s role in fostering cultural sensitivity and a deep understanding of global complexities. “We’ve had the privilege of receiving a world-class education here,” noted Chintale. Her words echoed the sentiments of many, encapsulating the diverse and inclusive community that Strathmore Institute nurtures.
Ms. Angelica Kiboro, the principal of the Institute, expressed her gratitude to the collaborators, benefactors, parents, and sponsors, who contributed to the success of the graduates. She highlighted the impact of the international trips organized for diploma students, which broadened their horizons and provided fresh perspectives. Ms. Kiboro also praised the Diploma in Entrepreneurship graduates, many of whom had successfully launched businesses, demonstrating the practical application of their acquired skills.
Dr. Vincent Ogutu, Chairman of the College Board of Management, urged the graduates to reflect on their learning journey, appreciate their acquired knowledge, and leave the Institute with a clear mission. He also officially welcomed the graduates to the University’s alumni network, “You are now part of a vibrant alumni network, a family of individuals who have shared the same formative experiences. This network is a valuable resource that can open doors and provide guidance as you navigate the path ahead.”
The ceremony’s chief guest, Dr. Anne Musuva-Njoroge, Regional Director of East and Southern Africa at ThinkWell and a proud alumnus of the Institute, emphasized the significance of values and ethics alongside technical expertise. She highlighted qualities such as resilience, integrity, and continuous learning, essential for the graduates’ future endeavors.
The ceremony reached its pinnacle as outstanding graduates were recognized, with Jassy Mandeep Singh standing out as a seven-time first-position holder in various professional courses. This remarkable achievement not only showcased Jassy’s dedication to his studies but also highlighted the Institute’s ability to nurture and support exceptional talent. His consistent success across multiple disciplines is a true reflection of the institute’s unwavering pursuit of academic excellence.
In celebrating the achievements of the SI Class of 2023, we extend our congratulations and best wishes to the graduates as they step into the world equipped with knowledge, skills, and a global perspective. They are poised to make a positive impact and shape a better future for us all.
