In today’s digital world, cybersecurity is no longer optional, it’s essential. But as threats become more complex and unpredictable, one thing is clear: we need more diverse minds at the table. Bringing more women into cybersecurity is the smart thing. ~ Jaine M. , CTOO, Standard Chartered Bank.
@iLabAfrica at Strathmore University, in partnership with Standard Chartered Bank, is proud to announce the official launch of the second cohort of the #SCWomenInCyber programme!
Launched in 2022, #SCWomenInCyber is a mentorship initiative that does more than just build skills. It builds capacity, challenges mindsets, and breaks systemic barriers that have long kept women out of the cybersecurity space. This initiative aims to shape the future of the inclusivity of women as a culture of inclusion is a win for our businesses.
And the impact is real.
So far, the programme has graduated its first 100 mentees: a proud milestone in closing the gender gap in East Africa’s cybersecurity workforce. These women are already making their mark in a space that desperately needs their insights, perspectives, and innovation.

Today’s launch brought together key voices from across the East Africa region — including stakeholders from Strathmore University, Standard Chartered, programme alumni, and aspiring participants from all corners of East Africa. It was a celebration of progress and a call to keep pushing forward.
“Threats are unpredictable,” noted Jaine M. “Bringing women into cybersecurity means bringing in diversity and with diversity comes smarter, stronger solutions.”
Dr. Butime, Dean of the Strathmore School of Computing and Engineering Sciences, reminded us: “It takes a deliberate effort from all of us to ensure women not only enter, but thrive in this space.”The event wrapped up with a lively panel on Cyber Collaboration, Cooperation, and Partnerships, driving home the point that no one secures cyberspace alone. It takes a network. It takes mentorship. It takes all of us.

What a day. What a time to be a woman, and a woman in cyber, ready to lead, innovate, and protect our digital future.
“ Until lion learns to write, every story will glorify the hunter” All the women who are going to join the next cohort, roar with pride, roar with style.” Sanjay Rughani, CEO Standard Chartered Uganda.
