Ever since I was young, my dream was to establish and run my own orphanage or try make a change in society before I could get there. Let me take you through the journey to where I saw my little self unleash her dreams. I had the incredible opportunity to host two charity events – one in June and another one in October, 2023, and it was a truly rewarding and unforgettable experience. From the initial planning stages to the final moments of the event, it was a journey filled with excitement, challenges, and ultimately, a sense of fulfillment.
We visited two homes; in June, we visited St. Paul’s Children Centre and in October, we visited The Brydges Centre. Following our initial visit, I was inspired and eagerly looked forward to hosting more visits in future. Eventually, we realized this aspiration, and we intend to make it a tradition each semester. Fun fact, this is not a club or a school project but a group of friends who want to make a positive impact in our society.
The experience from the visits served as a poignant reminder of the blessings we often take for granted. It highlighted the power of unity and the potential to create positive change in the world, one small act of kindness at a time. We managed to donate clothes that were needed by the homes, bought necessities from the donations we managed to raise, cleaned the place around and had an amazing time with the kids as well; from painting sessions, to face paintings, and football.
I would say it was one of my best ways to spend my Saturdays. The programs unfolded seamlessly, with heartfelt speeches, impactful stories, and remarkable performances and activities that touched our hearts.
Given the chance, I plan to continuously host other charity events, knowing that the effort and dedication put into it can create a ripple effect of positive change. Knowing that we had made a tangible impact on the lives of these children was immensely gratifying. The event had brought together a community of like-minded individuals who share a common goal of creating a brighter future for those in need.
It was a humbling and life-changing experience that will forever hold a special place in my heart; and which I hope can inspire others.
