Love is indeed a beautiful thing! To some, it is more about action than just emotion. It transcends romantic relationships and encompasses friendships and family bonds. On February 14th, people worldwide express love in different ways, with the most common practice being, exchanging gifts with loved ones. Here at the Alumni Office, we had an opportunity to discuss the significance of Valentine’s Day with our alumni.
“People on Valentine’s Day want to be loved, but it is portrayed differently. Some people want to send their loved ones a gift, while others choose to love themselves by sending packages to their offices. It’s a mix of emotions, both sad and uplifting. In business, it’s interesting to watch. “Lorraine Karanja, a passionate entrepreneur, beauty enthusiast and BBS alumnus confesses.
Despite the widespread emphasis on romanticized portrayals on Valentine’s Day, to some people, it remains to be a normal day.
“For me, Valentine’s is every day. I don’t feel loved extra on just one day. It’s an everyday thing for me,” Lorraine admits, highlighting the importance of giving and receiving daily acts of love.
On the other hand, some individuals may choose to spend this day with their family, “This Valentine’s I gave my parents some flowers instead of focusing on the traditional romantic gestures. “Stephen Mokoro, a BBIT alumnus and founder of Heriwork Talent, shares.
To some, it is a day to reconnect and bond with their friends. “I found friendships that have culminated into businesses here at Strathmore. As you grow, these friendships become your rock.” Basil Ogolla, a former law student at Strathmore University, now a seasoned Crypto Lawyer and a Policy Advisor, explains.
Regardless of whether Valentine’s should be considered a special day or not, the truth is that it is a day that is celebrated all over the world. Therefore, if Valentine’s Day is about love, kindness and appreciation, why limit it to just one day? Through daily acts of love, both small gestures and grand actions, we can create a world filled with warmth, kindness and understanding. With these virtues, we will not only make the world a better place, but we will also inspire others.
Unconditional love, Agape Love, can unite and create harmony in our world today. So yes, let’s make Valentine’s an everyday event! ❤
