Glitz, glam, and GPA slay — an accurate description of the Academic Gala 2025, held on the 1st and 2nd of July at the Strathmore University Auditorium. From the brilliant mathematicians of the Strathmore Institute of Mathematical Sciences, to the sharp business minds of the Strathmore Business School, the future hospitality leaders of the School of Tourism and Hospitality, the tech innovators of the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences, the aspiring diplomats of the School of Humanities, and the soon-to-be advocates of the School of Law, the evening was a true celebration of academic excellence and ambition. Organized by the Strathmore University Student Council, it was a remarkable showcase of the brilliant minds within our institution.

Whoever said that A students lack fashion sense has clearly never met the attendees of the gala. In line with the Masquerade Ball theme, the guests did not disappoint. Red, gold, and black outfit combinations filled the auditorium, making the evening not just a celebration of minds, but of style and sophistication as well.

After the warm opening remarks by the Student Council Secretary General, Elchanan Kiptoo, he welcomed our Dean of Students, Dr. Paul Ochieng. The dean was enthusiastic to see the students dressed up. “Learn how to spot a niche and work on it till you are successful,” he graciously said as he alluded to the nature of the ever-growing workplace. He went on to emphasize the importance of continuing to be brand ambassadors for Strathmore University and expressing the skills gained here. The heart of his speech was clear: a celebration of academic dedication and a call to continue striving
for excellence. He acknowledged the awardees’ hard work and emphasized the importance of character, discipline, and purpose in a student’s journey. His presence and message added weight to the event, reminding students that their efforts are seen and valued.

Day two of the gala
Strathmore Business School Executive Dean Dr. Caesar Mwangi graced day 2 of the gala. While reminiscing about his youth and his own dreams of making it onto the Dean’s List, he emphasized the importance of working with a clear vision. “Without a vision, you may want to give up,” he said, relating the importance of vision to its role in organizations. Furthermore, he reminded the students that they were at the top of the pyramid and emphasized how privileged they were to be at such a level. He noted that with this privilege came responsibility — not only to acknowledge it, but also to wield it wisely. “Despite the common nature of individuals to focus on themselves, it is highly selfish to forget everyone else around you,” he exclaimed, smiling at the beaming faces before him. He went on to remind them that they are not lazy people and should therefore avoid easy challenges in favor of more complex problems they are capable of solving “Proceed from the Dean’s List of Strathmore University to the Dean’s List of life,” he enthusiastically concluded.

The core of the event was the award ceremony, which honored students who had excelled in various categories. Dean’s List certificates were handed out to top performers across the invited schools, and recognitions for students who showed remarkable academic improvement. Each name called was met with applause, cheers, and proud smiles. As students walked up to the stage to receive their certificates, there was a shared feeling in the room: pride, not just in personal accomplishments, but in the supportive academic community that made such achievements possible.

What is a gala without some entertainment? Dr. Caesar showed us the true definition of aging with grace as he busted out his moves on the podium. Beyond the celebration of academic excellence, impeccable outfits in line with the theme had to be honored! The Best Dressed Award had everyone on the edge of their seats, with students shouting out their friends’ names for nominations.

Students repeatedly described the gala as unforgettable not just because of the awards, but because of what those awards symbolized: discipline, sacrifice, and resilience. The Academic Gala 2025 was more than a ceremony; it was a heartfelt celebration of academic excellence, community, and identity. Every attendee left feeling proud to be part of such an honorable achievement — inspired to continue striving for greatness in both academics and personal growth.

It was a night that will be remembered for years to come. As the curtains fell on an evening of elegance, achievement, and inspiration, one message stood out; a message that captured the spirit of the Academic Gala 2025: “Keep it up. That shows you’ve got focus, and by the time you leave this place, you’ll be the leader who will take us places, make us great,” said Dr. Mwangi.
