A Year of Growth in the Strathmore Alumni Family

What a year it has been for the Strathmore alumni community. As I sit and reflect on everything that has happened, I can’t help but smile at how far we’ve come. The year started with so much promise, and each event has been a step toward something bigger, something stronger, something that shows just how important it is to stay connected.

One of the most unforgettable moments of the year was the Annual Strathmore Alumni Connect at the JW Marriott Hotel. I still remember walking into the room, feeling the energy of over 200 alumni coming together, each person with their own story, their own journey, but all connected by our shared experience at Strathmore.

The evening was made even more special by Anne Muraya, the CEO of Deloitte East Africa, who gave an inspiring keynote speech. Her words were more than just advice, they were a call to action. That night, we didn’t just reconnect, we grew, we learned and we were inspired to do even more with the bonds we’ve formed.

But the Annual Strathmore Alumni Connect was just one chapter in this incredible year. The year began with a Meet and Greet in Cape Town, where alumni had the chance to connect with Dr. Vincent Ogutu, the Vice Chancellor, sharing ideas and strengthening their ties. In February, the Strathmore Alumni Golf Tournament offered a perfect blend of fun and networking, reflecting the community’s eagerness to continue growing.

The Dar es Salaam and Kisumu Meeting of Minds followed, where alumni gathered to discuss new opportunities and bond over shared passions. May was especially significant with the North Star Mentoring Program Hangout, where alumni guided young professionals in their careers, reinforcing the strength of the network. The BBS@10 Anniversary celebration in May marked a memorable milestone, as alumni gathered to celebrate a decade of success, reflect on the journey, and look ahead to an even brighter future.

October brought a truly refreshing experience; a hike to Katunga Forest as part of our Welfare Check Program. This hike was a chance for alumni to step away from their busy lives, connect with nature, and with each other. We laughed, shared stories, and learned from one another in a way that no conference or meeting could ever match. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best connections are made when you step outside and just be present.

In the midst of all this, the Strathmore Alumni Knowledge Series stood out as another fantastic initiative. These sessions were designed to keep alumni engaged and learning long after graduation. From discussions led by experts in their fields, these events helped alumni stay ahead of the curve, and the feedback from everyone involved has been incredibly positive. It was clear that alumni wanted more than just events; they wanted opportunities to continue growing, and we’ve delivered that through these sessions.

Looking back, 2024 has been one for the books. It’s been a year of growth, connection, and inspiration. The Annual Leavers Week was another powerful event, where alumni stepped in to help the Class of 2025 transition into life after university. It was heartwarming to see alumni volunteering their time to offer advice, share experiences, and help prepare the next generation of alumni for what lies ahead.

But as great as this year has been, the best part is knowing that we are just getting started. We have big plans ahead including cultivating our Alumni Chapters and growing the North Star Mentoring Program to reach even more alumni. These are just a few of the many exciting opportunities coming our way.

And so, we stand at the threshold of a new year, hearts full of gratitude and anticipation. To every alumnus who have walked this journey with us, know this: you are the soul of this community, the ink in the story we continue to write. The Strathmore University Alumni Relations Office wishes each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May the coming year bring even more opportunities for growth, connection, and success. Together, we are Strathmore, and this story is only just beginning.
