Strathmore University has a unique history dating back to pre-independent Kenya when different communities were segregated. Inspired by St. Josemaria’s message of working together towards the same aim, in spite of personal differences of opinion, tastes and backgrounds, Strathmore was started as the first multi-racial A’ Level College in 1961.

Following the tradition started off in 2016, we once again commence celebrations for the 2018 Strathmore Founder’s Week. This is an annual campus-wide celebration of Strathmore’s history that will commemorate the anniversary of our founding.

To mark this occasion Strathmore plans to have a series of events involving students, staff, faculty, trustees, alumni, and friends who make Strathmore such a strong, vibrant institution.

2018 Theme

‘The World Needs Strong families’

The family remains the basic unit of society and the first school in which children learn the human, spiritual and moral values which enable them to be a beacon of goodness, integrity and justice in our communities.’ Pope Francis

The theme of our Founder’s Week seeks to focus on the foundations of a strong solid  family. This does not mean that we pay attention to what is negative and going wrong… of which is there plenty; rather it is an opportunity to enrich ourselves with the ideals articulated by St. Josemaria Escriva on this topic.
The 2018 Founders Week theme challenges us to improve the quality of the families that we are part of and inspire the Strathmore community with ideals of what strong solid families ought to be.

‘I constantly tell those who have been called by God to form a home to love one another always, to love each other with the love of their youth.’(Conversations with Saint Josemaria Escriva, no. 91)

A key highlight of Founder’s Week this year, is the Blog Writing competition for students on this topic.
