Strathmore University has a unique history dating back to pre-independent Kenya when different communities were segregated. Inspired by St. Josemaria’s message of working together towards the same aim, in spite of personal differences of opinion, tastes and backgrounds, Strathmore was started as the first multi-racial A’ Level College in 1961.
Following the tradition started off in 2016, we once again commence celebrations for the 2017 Strathmore Founder’s Day. This will be an annual campus-wide celebration of Strathmore’s history that will commemorate the anniversary of our founding.
To mark this occasion Strathmore plans to have a series of events involving students, staff, faculty, trustees, alumni, and friends who make Strathmore such a strong, vibrant institution.
Theme
The theme this year is, ‘The Greatness of Ordinary Life’; a message that St. Josemaria believed in and worked tirelessly to spread to all who came into contact with him.
In modern times, there is the tendency to highlight and amplify only those occurrences that are extraordinary, and people that have done very exceptional achievements; this in itself is not a bad thing. However, moment after moment, hour after hour, it is the everyday events that shape and give meaning to our lives.
These ordinary things, our work, our studies, our relationships with family and friends, are really the cornerstones of our existence. These small and ordinary things around each one of us, are the opportunities to show our love for God. Each person is capable of becoming a saint by sanctifying the little things we do; if we do them well, and do them for the good of others, then, we glorify God.
