Prevention measures
The Ministry of Health – Kenya recommends following the following health and hygiene measures:
- Wash your hands frequently, with soap and water, or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer
- Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue or with your elbow flexed.
- Avoid handshaking, hugging and kissing (close contact) with people who have flu-like symptoms.
- Stay at home and avoid travelling when you have flu-like symptoms

What to do in case of symptoms
The Ministry of Health – Kenya recommends for those with flu-like symptoms to:
- Regularly wash your hands soap and water or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer
- Remain at home and avoid travelling for 14 days
- Use a face mask and other materials to prevent spread to family members and other people
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or fixed elbow
Should you develop flu-like symptoms such as fever, coughing and difficulty in breathing, consult the nearest health facility
Travel and movement
There are no travel restrictions issued at present in Kenya. However, following the precautionary principle, it is recommended not to travel to the affected areas unless it is strictly necessary. You can check the affected areas in the following link: COVID-19: Situation report
It is convenient that the entire Strathmore University fraternity in general who consider trips to countries near the affected areas or who have recently returned from these places follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health detailed in the following points A and B :
A. For those who have recently been in risk areas:
Currently,the Ministry of Health – Kenya recommends that patients stay at home and avoid travelling when you have flu-like symptoms for 14 days and follow the recommendations given above incase of the occurrence of symptoms.
B. For those employees who plan to travel:
In the event that one travels to the affected countries, it is advised to:
- Avoid contact with people who have flu like symptoms
- Use a face mask when visiting crowded places
- Avoid contact with live or dead, domestic or wild animals.
- Avoid consuming undercooked or raw animal products
- Regularly wash your hands soap and water or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer
