Opus Dei is a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church erected by Pope St. John Paul II on 28th November 1982. Through its activities, it seeks to spread the message that work, study, sport family life, and other ordinary activities are occasions for spiritual union with Jesus Christ.

Corporate apostolic initiatives promoted by Opus Dei, such as Strathmore University, are characterized by the presence of some faithful of Opus Dei, who together with ordinary citizens, undertake secular, lay activities, in accordance with the law of the land, based on professional work, and always imbued with a Christian spirit.

Other initiatives include, but are not limited to, training centres for farm workers, medical dispensaries and hospitals and schools that cater for the under-privileged in society. These undertakings have the official moral guarantee of the Prelature in all matters to do with their Christian orientation.
