Strathmore University Library comprises of a new library complex with a floor space of 2500 square metres. There is also a university library reading room that has a floor space of 450 square metres.

The atmosphere in both buildings is highly conducive to private study and research. A wide range of course reference works and books of general interest available in the new two-story complex contributes to the university’s excellent academic performance.

The new library, designed in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for University Libraries issued by Kenya’s Commission of Higher Education, has a seating capacity of 540 people and bookstack areas for 120,000 volumes, a dedicated audio-visual section, and offices . The reading room has a seating capacity of 300 people.

The University wishes to record its gratitude to the European Union whose grant has made the construction of the new University Library possible.

Mission Statement of the University Library

The University Library will strive to collect information resources and services and make them readily accessible, so as to encourage learning, research and improvement throughout life, while spreading a culture of solidarity which will uphold the dignity of the human person and family values, and assist in preparing students to become competent professionals who can enrich society with their knowledge, initiative and personal responsibility.

The Library Collection

The library collection currently stands at 60,000 volumes and is made up of titles mostly in the areas of accountancy, finance, mathematics, economics, computer science, information technology, development studies, management, languages , administration, ethics and general reading. It consists of:

1. Core texts
2. Reference collection (biographies, bibliographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias, prospectuses, catalogues, annual reports etc.)
3. Spiritual collection (in collaboration with Uzima Lending Library)
4. Leisure reading (novels)
5. Journals (hard copies and electronic journals)
6. Theses
7. Past examination papers
8. Selected Audio Visual materials (CD, DVD, VHS)

Information Services

The following are the opening times for the library:

1. Monday - Friday: 7:30am - 9:00pm
2. Saturday: 8:00am - 7:30pm
3. Sunday: 1.00pm - 6.00pm

Special Collections Section

1. Monday - Friday 8:00a.m. - 8:30p.m.
